GitHub Acquires NPM

Code hosting platform GitHub has inked a deal to acquire NPM, the javascript package manager. The company now joins the expanding Microsoft ecosystem through GitHub which was acquired by Microsoft in 2018. The company, via its blog, announced its plans to help NPM scale and meet the needs of the developer community without compromising NPMs features which have been available for free.  

Lagos State Government launches Ekocab


The Lagos state government has recently partnered with new ride sharing app Ekocab. The app aims to integrate the city's yellow taxis as well as private car owners into the digital ride sharing space previously dominated by Uber and Bolt, both foreign owned platforms. This announcement comes after the government ushered in a statewide ban on commercial motorcycles and kekes.

YouVerify Raises $1.5 Million Seed Round

Youverify, the identity verification startup that began in 2017, has raised a $1.5 million seed round. The company which previously had investments from Village Capital and Chinook Capital, now welcomes Orange Digital ventures and LoftyInc AfroPreneurs to its portfolio of investors. The startup aims to solve Nigeria’s identity crises by providing infrastructure which aggregates other existing verification methods into one accessible system. CEO Gbenga Odegbami revealed plans to expand beyond Nigeria and into at least 5 countries in 2020.
